Naomi Nakamura

Born in Aichi Prefecture.
2000 First encountered lampwork and started making glass beads and accessories.
2002 Launched the brand “na:zy.”
2004 Started producing heat-resistant glass (borosilicate) with oxygen burners.
2006 Established “Monado Glass” studio.
2013-2019 A part-time lecturer at Nagoya Zokei University of Art & Design.

When I was in elementary school, my parents often took me to a coffee shop.
There were green plants, a tropical fish aquarium, and a lot of miscellaneous
goods on display in the shop, among these were some works of sparkling glass.
Every time I saw them, I was impressed and it became an unforgettable moment.
Around the time I became an adult, I started asking myself what I really wanted to do in the future,
I chanced upon a book about lampwork that described how people can craft glasswork at home.

Picking it up and looking through the pages, I suddenly had a feeling as if my soul was trembling.
This reawakened the feelings from my childhood and I instinctively said to myself,
“I’m absolutely going to do this!” I again felt the same sensation of my soul trembling.

I was walking along a road that I don’t normally take and came across a small glass shop.
It was a lampwork studio which contained beautiful glasswork and when I saw it, I immediately
said, “I’m going to do this!”

“Glasswork will be my lifelong career.”

When I first started to make my own glasswork, I knew from the very beginning that this
was my passion and career. This feeling continued on to this day, embodied in the products that I create.

I am very grateful for my encounter with glasswork.
